Blood into Gold: The Cinematic Alchemy of Alejandro Jodorowsky

This blog will explore underground classics of Latin American cinema.  What better way to begin than to immerse yourself in the wonderfully surreal and mystical films of Chilean-born, Alejandro Jodorowsky.  Best known for his cult classic, El Topo, a midnight staple in the 70s and one of John Lennon’s favorite films, New Yorkers once again have the opportunity to experience his cinematic wizardry and insanity.   We’re talking bizarre, fascinating, funny, violent, troubling images.  Grindhouse at it’s very best!

Check out this trailer for Holy Mountain.

Beginning this Thursday, September 23 through October 8th, t he Museum of Arts and Design (2 Columbus Circle, New York, NY) is presenting Blood into Gold: The Cinematic Alchemy of Alejandro Jodorowsky, showcasing Jodorowsky’s complete works.  I’ll post more shortly about the films, plays, and books of this brilliant artist.  And, if I pick the right tarot card (he also does tarot card readings), maybe even get to interview him.  Having met him once before, I can attest that he’s an entertaining and insightful speaker.  For now, see the schedule below or go directly to MAD’s website at http://madmuseum.org/DO/public%20programs/jodorowsky.aspx to purchase tickets!
